SOLASTALGIA

Solastalgia from February 28 to March 25, 2026
Opening on February 28, 2026, RSVP

Solastalgia is an exhibition bringing together five artists from the ceramic collective Everything Already Present. The works highlight the use of local clay, wood ash, and ancestral firing techniques, while reflecting on the ecological impact of the materials used.

The title refers to a concept formulated by the philosopher Glenn Albrecht, which describes the unease felt when familiar environments undergo ecological transformations.

The exhibition considers solastalgia not only as a state of disruption, but also as an opportunity to renew our attention, continuity, and care for the people and places with which we coexist.

Artists

Camille David Boudrault (Cassi Camille)
Cassi Camille is an interdisciplinary artist, sculptor, and ceramicist. She works with clay, textiles, wood, and metal to develop a practice rooted in her Haitian and Quebecois heritage, where personal narrative engages with a broader reflection on Black culture and heritage.

Her approach is based on a sensitive relationship with materials, particularly clay and other local materials, which she approaches intuitively. Her works explore resilience, ancestry, and the cycles of life, and envision creation as a trace, or even a future relic, of the human experience.

Élodie Dubuc-Bernard
Élodie Dubuc-Bernard is a ceramic artist who lives and works in Tiohtià:ke (Montreal), where she earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts with a major in ceramics from Concordia University in 2024. Her practice explores the connection between culture and nature, and how life manifests itself through materials and forms. Her work has been featured in various group exhibitions in Montreal, as well as in Skælskør, Denmark, and Saint-Barthélemy-d'Anjou, France, during artist residencies.

Owen Herlin
Owen Herlin is a Montreal-based artist who explores ceramics, zines, clothing, and creative reuse. His practice incorporates recycled paper, wild clay, wood ash, and other found materials. Owen received his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Ceramics from Concordia University in 2024. During his studies, he participated in a residency at the Guldagergaard International Centre for Ceramic Research, where he explored atmospheric firing and the use of natural ceramic materials. He has led workshops on creative reuse at Concordia, Art in the Park, and other Montreal studios. His work has been exhibited at Stephen Bulger, Albright Knoxx, Eastern Bloc, Atelier Galerie 2112, Art Mûr, and Expozine.

Sam Duquette
Sam Duquette (she/they) is a transfeminine contemporary artist from Quebec based in Tiohtià:ke/Mooniyang/Montreal. In 2024, Sam received her Bachelor of Arts in Ceramics and Sculpture from Concordia University. She has also worked alongside artist Nadia Myre in ceramic art research and development at the Kinawind Research Lab for the past four years. With the collective Everything Already Present, she explores locally sourced earth materials and alternative ceramic techniques, first experimented with in 2022 during a residency at the Guldagergaard International Ceramic Research Center in Denmark. Her work has been featured at the Artch 2025 festival (Montreal), in an online exhibition with the Gardiner Museum (Toronto) as part of the International Ceramic Art Fair, and in group exhibitions at Art Mûr (Montreal), Eastern Bloc (Montreal), Galerie Jano Lapin (Montreal), and other venues.

Sara Mericle
Sara Mericle is a Montreal-based ceramic artist whose practice explores notions of fragility and permanence, revealing the underlying tensions and uncertainties we face within ecosystems. In 2024, she received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Ceramics from Concordia University.

She has been an artist-in-residence at the Medalta International Artists Centre (Medicine Hat, Alberta, 2024), CASA (Lethbridge, Alberta, 2023), and the Guldagergaard International Ceramics Research Center (Skælskør, Denmark, 2022). She is a member of the artist collective Everything Already Present, which explores the use of local materials.

The Everything Already Present Collective

Everything Already Present is a collective of six ceramic artists who draw on diverse perspectives and experiences to explore central issues in contemporary ceramics. Initially formed at Concordia University, the collective came together around a shared passion: contributing to the development and support of programs that enrich the community and exploring the challenges of sustainable development. Their efforts have resulted in community outreach, fundraising for ceramics education, peer exchanges, and work to promote research and sustainable practices in materials within institutions.

The collective participated in international ceramic residencies, organized local clay-hunting expeditions, and conducted research and experimentation to develop the functional use of local materials. In 2023, this research culminated in the inaugural group exhibition, Everything Already Present, showcasing ceramic works addressing various issues related to sustainable development. As part of this exhibition, tests of local materials, recipes, and practical methods for their sustainable use were shared with the public through a recipe booklet for ceramicists designed to encourage these environmentally friendly practices.
