Kimpov Eap

Artistic Statement

Kimpov Eap’s pictorial practice is rooted in an exploration of gesture, material, and perception. She favors oil and acrylic, mediums that allow her to investigate the tensions between opacity and transparency, density and fluidity, structure and dissolution. On the surface, she composes ambiguous forms that suggest without illustrating, that brush the edge of figuration without settling into it. These forms name nothing, yet evoke presences—fragments of perceptual experiences in constant flux.

Her approach is guided by a refined attention to the rhythms of the body, its subtle movements, and its imbalances. This sensitivity comes from her practice in osteopathy, a discipline based on listening to tissues, reading micro-movements, and understanding the intelligence of the living body. Painting thus becomes an extension of this attentiveness: a space of resonance between internal forces and external dynamics, between visible gestures and underlying tensions.

Rather than representing, the artist seeks to let forms emerge. She works in layers, with revisions and interruptions, allowing the process to guide the form in a logic akin to therapeutic adjustment: seeking equilibrium without ever fixing it. This constant interplay between control and surrender gives rise to works in which one perceives less a narrative than a state, a modulation, a breath.

Far from narrative or symbolic references, her work offers a visual space to reflect on movement, the density of silence, and the capacity of the body to inscribe into matter what cannot be put into words.

Biography

Born in Cambodia, Kimpov Eap has been fascinated by the beauty of nature and drawn to drawing from a very young age.

She arrived in Montreal in 1982 and enrolled at École Pierre-Dupuys in 1996 to take a fashion drawing course. She painted her first canvas in 1999. Fully committed to her artistic practice for nearly 20 years, this talented artist has created works in oil, pastel, charcoal, watercolor, acrylic, and graphite.

A student at the École des Beaux-Arts de Montréal (EBAMA), she paints instinctively, infusing her canvases with contrasts and warmth. Her original works transport viewers into a world of emotion and authenticity. Her ongoing search for balance and well-being has allowed her to create a seamless connection between art and her profession as an osteopath.

Kimpov Eap is a member of AAVNM (Visual Artists of Northern Montreal) and CAPSQ (Circle of Quebec Painters and Sculptors). She has participated in over 20 exhibitions in Canada and Europe, as well as numerous symposiums. In addition to a recent exhibition at Galerie ARTUS and her participation in the 2019 CASPQ gala competition, she presented her works at the Leonardo da Vinci Center last May.
